Being at the Right Place at the Right Time

Have you ever wondered why some companies become successful while others are struggling forever? A lot of research has been done in this field and the results vary a lot, but one thing sticks out in all of them:

Being at the right place at the right time.

In my experience everybody can become successful, but it requires more than just yourself, your skills and talents to actually make it. Business is about exchanging values. To be successful with it requires the interaction and connection of many things. Beside yourself there is your potential customer and the current market situation. These need to be in alignment to have any chance of an interaction. It is hard enough to control ourselves, but almost impossible to control potential customers or the market.

Whatever successful company you look at, the reason they became successful was because they all were at the right place at the right time. In their market place there were lots of others much better skilled, more professional and sometimes even in business for quite a while and with lots of experience, but only the one made it. You could say it just got lucky.

But what does it actually mean to be at the right place at the right time? And what can you do to be at this place when you need to be?

Time is something, at least until now, we cannot influence. But the place is were we choose to be and for the most our decision.
In order to find the right alignment we really have two choices:
We can either decide to stick with one place long enough until the right time arrives, or we try to figure out at what place the right time will most likely be and go there.

Both is possible. You can use Google Trends or similar systems to find out which place will most likely be hit by the right time. Or you can also decide to stick with what you like doing most, become the best in that field, preparing yourself for when the right time comes.
There doesn’t seem to be a real difference between the two when it comes to the chance of success. Most successful companies in the past just started by doing what they loved most, but with the amount of information available today there seems to be a shift towards the big search for the right product or service to sell at any given time.

Of course all of this depends very much on your definition of success and again for each definition there is a right time and a right place. Confused already?

For me being successful means in part having fun and enjoying the things I do. This counts for about 50% of my “Success Rate”. The other 50% are clearly my clients and their success.
Therefor I decided on my space which is coaching, mentoring and teaching. But I also use information to find out the current trends and what influences my potential and existing clients most. This information I use to develop the right type of product or service I can cover with my skills, providing the most effective impact for my customers. I believe this combination works well.

By deciding on my field I don’t waste energy having to learn new things all the time. The opposite, through constant learning, improving and practicing the things I enjoy most, I have a real good chance to become one of the best in my field.
By looking at the things that impact my clients most, I can package my skills to be of importance and effective.

It still doesn’t guarantee me being at the right place at the right time, but I enjoy what I do while helping my clients to do the same.
And one thing is for sure, when the right time comes around, I am ready and until then I enjoy every minute of it.
