The Thing About Passion

The Thing About Passion

“You must find your passion” or “Follow your passion” – I am sure many of you have heard those statements before. It sounds so romantic and adventurous.

Let’s have a look at what the dictionaries say about passion:

  • strong and barely controllable emotion
  • the suffering and death of Jesus
  • any powerful or compelling emotion or feeling, as love or hate
  • strong sexual desire; lust
  • a strong or extravagant fondness, enthusiasm or desire for anything

I think we can agree that most of it relates to a strong feeling towards something.

How do you get this feeling towards something if you’re not sure what that something is?
I guess you could try all sorts of things until you feel it. It’s a strong feeling, and we all should be able to know that we’re passionate about something when we feel it.

Are you passionate about something? Do you know what it is?

I love my family, but I wouldn’t call it passionate. It’s more like a deep-seated feeling. Love is an intense feeling based on the dictionary, but I wouldn’t say I am passionate about my family. But there are many intense moments 🙂

When I think about passion than I imagine the feeling in the morning, looking forward to my work, which over time I began to love. If we are talking about passionate feelings, then that is undoubtedly one of them. It is not always like that, but often enough to keep the positive vibe going.

When I started my business, it wasn’t passionate at all. It was and still is tough work. But especially at the beginning, it was more of a deep-seated fear that I might not be good at it that kept me going. It is also a strong feeling, barely controllable and powerful emotion. But over time, I learned to live with it, and it turned into what I would call love for what I do.

The feeling of having conquered my fear and overcome many obstacles have turned that negative feeling into something positive. I would put it in the category of the last point in the list above: A strong or extravagant fondness, enthusiasm or desire for my work.
That sounds about right.

So does this mean I have found my passion? Maybe.

Life is full of feelings. Some are stronger, and some are weaker. Passion seems to describe strong feelings. The kind of feeling that makes us do the crazy stuff and might have a life-changing impact. As adventurous that sounds, I am not sure if I would like to live like this all the time.

Life is often quite dull and repetitive, but if we can get up in the morning with this feeling that today we’re going to make the most tedious part of the most exciting part, I think we come very near to what I would call passion.

I believe passion is within and is something we can call upon if we want to. If we’re going to make today the most passionate day of our life, then we can do so. We don’t have to wait for anything or find something to make that happen. We’re living right now, and the choice is ours.

We have passion in us; we need to apply it to the things we do. Lets put some passion into it. Let’s go a bit wild and enjoy the moment.

What’s your take on passion?
