If your business is primarily online and you need a fast and reliable server setup, I can only recommend Amazon AWS Cloud-based servers.
Amazon Web Services (AWS) is a secure cloud services platform, offering computing power, database storage, content delivery, and other functionality to help businesses scale and grow. Based on their information, millions of customers are currently leveraging AWS cloud products and solutions to build sophisticated applications with increased flexibility, scalability and reliability.
I’ve been using AWS for over 12 months now, and I am more than happy. It does require some server knowledge. You need to be able to install Linux and whatever web-software you use. You also need to be able to install a database, but all the rest is managed automatically by Amazon. If you can’t do this yourself, there are lots of people out there to help you set it all up for a reasonable price.
What I like most is its scalability. You can change your whole server configuration with a press of a button. You can add processors, memory and space as you need it. You can have this process automated, but it makes it all a bit more expensive, but still much cheaper than most dedicated hosting solutions on the market. I am also able to choose the cloud location which I have set to Ireland. This is more a legal issue than anything else.
I currently have between 100 and 500 visits on my site every day, and I run a Linux server with one processor and 2MB memory, and it works like a treat. Should something go wrong, Amazon will inform me straight away (alarm-triggers), so I can react immediately. I also use their S3 storage feature for all my web-images and their mail delivery system for all my mail shots (newsletters, posts, etc.)
I currently pay around 30 US Dollars per month for all of it. You can’t get that kind of services from any hosting provider. However, if your requirements are lower, you can find shared hosting providers for less than 10 US Dollars per month.
It’s flexibility, price, manageability and service are amazing, and everything is controlled via a single login to your services at Amazon AWS.
