What?

What?

Starting and running a business is all about planning, goal-setting and working towards it.
Every entrepreneur can confirm that. How else can we achieve something and measure our success.

It is very easy for most to get that planning right. It’s like an instruction manual we write for ourselves and then we can stop thinking about it and just follow our own instructions.
In my opinion there is nothing wrong with that approach and way of thinking, but I believe there is one thing that stops most of us to actually make it big!

While working with my clients we talk a lot about goals and where they want to be and when. Most of them have clear ideas of where they would like to be and most have realistic long-term goals.
The one question I ask all of them is the following:
What stops you to achieve your long-term goal in 6 weeks?
What would you need to do or what should happen to achieve your goal right now?

These are important questions to ask yourself. We all have the tendency to play it safe, to set goals with a time frame we believe is achievable.
Very often we under-estimate ourselves and stop ourselves from becoming really successful within the shortest possible time. We do not search for alternatives to achieve our goals and we don’t see or grab the opportunities ahead.

Let’s take an example:

Your goal is to increase your income from 6000 Euro per month to 10000 Euro per month within 1 year. You plan to add one more customer per month which should give you about 500 Euro per month extra income. calculating that some customers might drop-off, your best guess is to give yourself 12 month to achieve your goal.
Now you divide the required actions into smaller chunks to be done every month to gain one more customer per month. Sounds like a good plan, right?

Now let me ask you a question:
What would it take to gain an extra 4000 Euro per month within the next 6 weeks?

Sounds like a crazy question?
Think again! What would it take to gain an extra 4000 Euro per month within the next 6 weeks?

There are several scenarios to play with, but for this blog lets keep it based on adding new customers. So we need 8 new customers, each of them adding 500 Euro to our monthly income. Where can we find 8 new customers within 6 weeks?

Lets start with how you find one customer? Is there any way to find more then one at the same time? What do I need to change to make this happen?

From here on it becomes more specific to your business, but I am sure you get the gist.

The base of this blog is to motivate you to ask yourself some critical questions starting with “What?”
What if I could achieve my goal today?
What would I need to do to make this happen?
What….?

Question your plans and ideas from time to time and look always for new opportunities to improve yourself, your goals and everybody and everything around you!
